Toluna

Toluna is the online panel part of Toluna plc, which provides market studies to companies.

Toluna plc has been founded in 2000 in Paris, France and has now offices in 14 countries.

In 2009, Toluna bought Greenfield Online and their online panel Ciao-surveys. The Ciao-surveys and Toluna panels merged and are now forming a community of 5 million responders from 39 differents countries.

As usual in online survey companies, you will receive points according to the time you need to answer a survey. You can redeem your points for vouchers, sweepstakes tickets or cash directly.

Registration

The first step of the registration process is very quick: simply indicate your name, age, gender and email address, choose a username & a password and you are done. You will earn 500 points and 1 entry for the monthly sweepstakes for this 2-minute-registration.

Once you registered and verified your email address, your "profile" will be 32% completed, meaning that you still have to answer few questions before to reach the 100%. Those questions are divided into 12 different categories (health, travel, finance, etc.) and help defining your consumer's profile.

It will take you one-to-five minutes to complete the "profile" for each category and you will receive 100 points each time. That's an additional 1200 points once you finished.

Short & Long surveys and Product Tests

Immediately after your registration, you will be able to complete your first surveys (the number of surveys available is displayed near your username at the top right of the page).

Some of these surveys are very short and only contain 4-to-5 questions. You will earn between 50 and 200 points for each of these short survey and those points will be automatically added to your account.

Longer surveys will also be available and will require 20-to-30 minutes to be completed (assuming that your profile corresponds to what they are looking for, otherwise you will be stopped very early). Those time-consuming surveys generally reward you with 1500-to-2500 points, and sometimes with up to 6000 points if the survey is particularly long. Points that you earn with those long surveys will only be added to your account after the quota of responders has been reached, which can takes few weeks.

If you want to answer more surveys, you can select a survey available for you and then click on "More Surveys" to see a list of a dozen additional surveys.

If you are bored of surveys, it's also possible to participate to product tests. Do to this, just click on "Test Products" under the "Rewards" tab and choose which items you would like to test. Participating members will be randomly selected among the list of applicants and will directly receive the product in their mail. After you tested a product, you can keep it in exchange for your feedback. Here are some examples of the products you might have a chance to test: cosmetics, health care products, household products, etc. Sometimes, if you are (very) lucky, you will also have the opportunity to test (and keep) very expensive products like TVs, video-games, phones, etc.

The Toluna Community

The Toluna panel is very community-oriented and you will have a lot of opportunities to interact with other panelists, ask them to answer quick polls that you can create, or answer theirs. Of course, if you don't feel very talkative, you can simply reply to the surveys you receive in your mail box.

The "Wizard" bar is an interesting tool allowing you to ask questions directly to the Toluna community or quickly create a poll. You can tell your opinion about something and ask others what they think. You can also ask them to choose between 2 things (for instance: do you prefer Facebook or Twitter? Cats or dogs?). If you want people to decide what should be your next haircut or which color is the best for your new jacket, you can also ask them to choose between 2 pictures and pick the most popular choice!

Sweepstakes entries, Vouchers, Cash Payment and "Gifties"

There are several ways to use your points. You can convert 500 of them into an entry for the Monthly Sweepstakes. You can convert your points to as much tickets as possible if you want to increase your chances of winning. Each month, thousands of dollars in Prizes are divided between the winners. The amount of the Prizes and the number of winners vary according to your country of registration, going from 5-to-20 winners per month.

It is sometimes also possible to exchange 1000 of your points for an entry for an additional Drawing in which you can win a particular product (lately, 4 iPads where put at stake in several countries).

If you don't like sweepstakes entries, you can also convert your points into money or vouchers. The minimum amount of points convertible depends on your country. In the US, 30000 points can be converted to $10 in Facebook credits whereas in the UK, you will need 60000 points for a £10-value voucher. In most countries, you can exchange your points for a payment by check, prepaid VISA or Paypal (also depending on your country of residency). In some countries (UK for instance), points can only be converted into vouchers.

If you only have a small amount of points to use (between 50 and 500), you can also use them to buy virtual gifts called "Gifties". You can keep those Gifties for you or send them to your friends on Facebook, followers on Toluna or anybody who possesses an email address. The interesting part is that those virtual gifts can become real once in a while and the corresponding products will be shipped to you or your friend. Some examples of Gifties: plush, concert tickets, iTunes gift card, digital camera, gift basket...etc..

Every points that you earn will be valid for one year, so don't forget to use them!
